In military and mission critical machines, designs don’t move quickly when lives are at stake. Systems must be perfect. But the next-generation VME standard called VXS has gone from “VME Renaissance” concept to production qualified products in a relatively speedy 5 years. This E-cast will discuss how next-generation switched serial fabrics such as RapidIO, Ethernet and PCI Express can be easily integrated into existing and legacy VME32 and VME64 systems and backplanes, while still maintaining reliability.
