The PowerMIDAS M5000 Single Board Computers and I/O Controllers are PMC carrier cards optimized for high-performance I/O and designed for engineers wishing to maximize their systems potential for future performance and functionality upgrades.
The PowerMIDAS M5000 provides 2 PMC sites, 3 independent PCI-X buses and options for up to two ports consisting of 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel and/or Gigabit Ethernet without having to sacrifice a PMC slot. These capabilities in conjunction with Processor PMC (PrPMC) and/or I/O devices, allow the PowerMIDAS M5000 to scale and evolve in a wide variety of applications, far beyond what is possible with more traditional carrier boards, I/O boards or single board computers.
The PowerMIDAS M5000 series offers a number of features unique to the VME implementation. The PowerMIDAS M5000 for VME utilizes the AMCC PPC440GX PowerPC CPU core running at 667MHz, 256MB local DDR-SDRAM memory, 32 MB FLASH memory, two 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connections, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connection and two serial connections (RS-232 or RS-422).
In addition to the standard PCI-X buses, the PMC sites include the following connections:
The extension subsystem is composed of VME, RACE++ and mezzanine interfaces. All the devices are located on a private 64-bit 33MHz 5V signaling PCI only segment. This PCI segment is called the quaternary PCI segment. A PCI6540 universal PCI-X to PCI-X bridge connects the quaternary PCI segment with the tertiary PCI-X segment. The Tundra Universe IID PCI-to-VME bridge is a PCI only component which provides VME accesses. The Mercury PXB++ PCI-to-RACE++ bridge is a device that enables operation in RACE++ systems. The mezzanine connector provides access to a mezzanine board compatible with the previous family of PowerMIDAS boards (via a spacer). A set of two connectors provides accesses to one PCI bus (64-bit, 33MHz, 5V signaling) and control signals.
