VCX301 3U VPX (VITA 46) Carrier for XMC Mezzanines

  • 3U VPX (VITA 46) board
  • XMC site with P15/P16 routed to VPX backplane
  • Air or conduction-cooled rugged versions

The VCX301 is a 3U VPX carrier for XMC mezzanines. The XMC J15/J16 signals are routed to the backplane which determines the overall system topology and provides a protocol independent high bandwidth data pipe for multi-GB/s communications.

The VCX301 can also be used as a carrier for PMC modules, such as a FPGA-based I/O module that supports data flow through the J14 connector. Although PCI is not supported, the VCX301 provides power, a 33 MHz clock and reset to the PMC connector. I/O is routed to the backplane. This is useful for embedded modules needing to use a VPX fabric.

Differential I/O

Sixteen high-speed full-duplex serial differential links, with separate transmit and receive pairs, connect to the backplane. There are eight primary links connecting between P1 and J15, and eight secondary links, between P2 and J16.

The electrical characteristics and pin allocations conform to PCI Express standards but represent a superset of other compatible protocols. The differential impedance is 100Ω.

An additional eight full-duplex serial differential links are available which are electrically identical to the high-speed differential links and can be used for other signalling, such as 1000Base-X Ethernet. The links connect between P2 and J14.

Single Ended I/O

Two single-ended links are dedicated to the primary asynchronous serial link for the Management Controller.

Eight single-ended links connect between P2 and J14 for general purpose (LVTTL) user I/O. The signals have an impedance of 50Ω and may be used as discrete I/O or as an eight bit parallel bus.
